Real-Life Pirate Princess: Lucy Bellwood Draws Comics of the Sea

Oregon tall ship sailor Lucy Bellwood tells her tales with comic book artistry.

I was stunned by the talent shown in Baggywrinkles, a webcomic from real-life pirate princess Lucy Bellwood, who uses her comics to spin yarns about her time sailing on Portland’s Lady Washington.

Thanks for the compliment, Claire! Which tall ship did you get your start on? Are you still sailing? The more creative women in the maritime world, the better!

Thanks so much for stopping by, Lucy! I was delighted to discover your work. I have sailed on both the Pacific Swift in Victoria, B.C. and the Pioneer in New York. I haven’t sailed in a while, but I’m working on a book (shhh!) that will require more hands-on research.
